Canyons climbing Gym

Do I need to have prior climbing experience before I climb at the Canyons? No. We have courses designed to teach you the basics of climbing and belaying. If you are not interested in a course, we can schedule a private lesson. OR, you can boulder (climbing without ropes) or climb on our Trublue auto-belay systems, a great way to try out climbing and just have fun. Trublue auto-belay climbing is our most affordable option for those looking to try climbing or have fun.

What do I need to bring with me to climb? You should climb in comfortable loose-fitting clothing. You can rent all of the necessary equipment for climbing at the Canyons, or you can bring your own. We have a Healthy Vending machine that offers snacks and drinks.

Can I bring a friend to climb? Yes, But they must fill out a waiver and take a belay test if they are going to belay you. Members are allowed to bring 1 guest for free anytime, as long as it is the guest’s first visit. OR members may bring 1 monthly-guest who has been to the facility before on their "Member Guest Pass"

How many auto belays do you have? Currently, 5

what is the youngest a child can climb? there is no age, but they must be at least 30 lbs. to wear a harness.

Can I bring my pet? No

Is climbing safe? As our acknowledgment of risk forms and every book on the topic will tell you, climbing has inherent dangers; it is an adventure sport. If you are well trained and are using the correct equipment and technique, your safety level is dramatically increased. At the Canyons Rock Climbing, safety is our number one concern. If you have questions or concerns about your safety, we will be happy to talk to you and answer any questions.

Safety guidelines: In order to belay or lead climb at the Canyons, members and guests must pass a safety test and be at least 13 years or older.

Lead climbers / lead belayers must demonstrate:

Proper use of climbing harness, UIAA certified belay device and belay technique
Ability to properly tie into the correct parts of the harness with a traceable figure-eight knot

Ability to solidly lead 5.10. All clips must be made quickly and properly from relatively solid stances. Leaders must also demonstrate their ability to properly handle and control the rope while leading.

Appropriate tests must be passed in order to belay or lead climb in the gym.

Can I climb in the morning and return to climb in the evening? Yes. If you purchase a day pass or are a member you can come and go as you please.

Do you offer outside climbing instruction and/or guiding? No, not currently. We have some brochures located at our front desk for companies in Austin and Enchanted Rock who offer outdoor services.

Can kids climb? Yes, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Kids can have their birthday parties at the Canyons where they can climb, celebrate, and enjoy their cake too. Please schedule parties at least 2 weeks in advance. We also offer private lessons and belayers for hire. please schedule at least 3 days in advance for these services. 1-hour with a hired belayer $20.00 does not include entry fee or gear.

Can I bring a group to climb? Yes. We can provide your group with a custom climbing experience tailored to your needs. No previous experience is required, and we'll provide all the necessary climbing gear.

What are the benefits of becoming a Canyons member?
